About

The Japanese term “Isshu” denotes
the interval of time
that it takes
an incense stick to burn down to the end.
Our incense brand ISSH, named after “Isshu”,
has a burning time of 20 minutes.
Enjoy the pleasing scent and
wafting smoke as the incense stick
burns out over this fixed period of time.
You cannot help but relax as
you watch the incense burn.
We have embodied the essence of
the whole experience as a product.
As the incense stick burns, enjoy its scent,
savor the passage of time,
and refresh
yourself both physically and mentally.
We hope that you will experience
this “Isshu” of 20 minutes
― out of the 1,440 minutes in your day ― as a period of peace and tranquility.
ISSH is an incense brand born in Japan.
The brand was born out of
a desire to add the value of time to
the enjoyment of fragrance and to make
the same time even more profound.
Incense has been associated with
time since ancient times.
Monks used to measure time with
incense sticks when they practiced
zazen (Zen meditation). The unit of time
is called “shu,”
and the time for one
incense stick is counted as “isshu”.
With this historical background,
we wanted to create a product that
would be accepted in modern society
and redefine incense.

The set includes an original incense holder and three types of incense. By setting the scale on the incense holder, the burning incense indicates the time and visualizes the time to enjoy the fragrance. We hope that you will use these tools for a long time, so we have also included a special pin to remove the incense that remains in the incense holder.

How to Use

How to Use
1) Place the wooden incense holder on a noncombustible container, such as an incense plate.
2) Insert the golden scale into the groove on the incense holder, with the zerominute side down and the readings facing the incense stick (as shown in the assembly diagram). This scale indicates the duration until the incense stick burns down to the end.
3) Set an incense stick into the hole on the incense holder.
4) Light the tip of the incense stick, extinguish the flame and let it smolder.
5) After use, remove the remaining stick end by inserting the accessory pin into the hole on the bottom of the incense holder.

Cleaning
The scale, pin, and eyelet hole are all made of brass. Over time, the color and texture of the brass will change, developing an elegant patina. If they become dirty, gently wash the scale and pin with a mild detergent and polish the eyelet carefully with a cotton swab. During cleaning, avoid getting detergent on the wooden body, as this may degrade or erode the flame-retardant coating on the wooden surface.

Precautions for Use
Be sure to read this section before use. This product is not edible; take great care so as not to swallow. Use the product properly according to the “How to Use” instructions. Take great care when handling fire. When storing the product, avoid exposure to an open flame and areas of high temperature, high humidity, or direct sunlight. During use and storage, keep out of the reach of children or pets. Do not fall asleep or leave the area while the stick is burning. Ensure that the stick has been thoroughly extinguished after use. Do not place any easy-to-burn item near the product when in use. Use only on a flat and stable surface not affected by wind, and take great care to prevent unexpected tipping, such as during an earthquake. Note that the actual burning time of an incense stick may vary depending on usage environment.
